MBABANE – The Central Bank of Eswatini was last night announced as the winner of the best recirculation or innovative initiative award for its coin management efficiencies project by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) during the IACA’s Excellence in Currency Awards Ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal.
IACA was formed in 2004, as a non-profit independent member organisation to promote and encourage excellence in the cash cycle and provide a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration for its members on matters of strategic importance. The Excellence in Currency Awards programme was introduced in 2007 to promote and recognize excellence in banknote and coin production, processing management, distribution and related activities of the cash community.
During the ceremony, the Central Bank was further awarded as a finalist in the Best New Commemorative/Limited Circulation Coin category. In this category, the Bank was recognized for its 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin that beautifully tells Eswatini’s story through technological advancement, tourism, and the unity of emaSwati.
The coin was officially unveiled by His Majesty King Mswati III during the Bank’s 50th Anniversary celebration held in May this year and is purely for commemorative purposes. Present to receive the awards were the Chief Operations Officer Mfanfikile Dlamini, Director of Operations Lungile Dlamini, Deputy Director Operations of currency and Banking Zodwa Nkambule, and Lead Specialist—Communications Lwazi Dlamini.
Just two years ago, Eswatini became the second African country to ever win the Central Banking Website of the Year award after Kenya. The Governor, Dr. Phil Mnisi conveyed his heartfelt congratulations and honour for this global recognition.
