MBABANE – The Shukuma Mbabane Crossover brought an electrifying close to the year as the Kingdom of Eswatini celebrated the fusion of sports, entertainment, and community spirit at the Prince of Wales Stadium. Hosted by the Ministry of Sport, Culture, and Youth Affairs, this monumental event not only welcomed 2025 but also highlighted the transformative power of sports and unity.
Hon. Bongani Nzima, the Minister of Sport, Culture, and Youth Affairs, opened the event with an inspiring speech. He commended the collaborative efforts of the Philani Maswati Charity Organisation and the Municipal Council of Mbabane, emphasizing that such partnerships are a beacon of hope and resilience for the nation.
“Today, we celebrate more than just an event—we celebrate the boundless power of sport and entertainment to transform lives, build bridges, and inspire greatness,” said Hon. Nzima. His remarks underlined the government’s commitment to nurturing sports and entertainment as thriving industries capable of generating employment and fostering national pride.
The Shukuma Mbabane Crossover showcased the dynamic participation of communities from Mbabane West and Mbabane East, along with representatives from across the country. The event featured engaging activities that encouraged fitness, active lifestyles, and community bonding, setting a high standard for future gatherings.
Special tributes were paid to Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Patron of Philani Maswati, for her unwavering dedication to the elderly and her leadership in enriching lives. Hon. Nzima also praised the local Members of Parliament, Hon. Jane Mkhonta and Hon. Welcome Dlamini, for their exemplary leadership and service to their constituencies.
As attendees reflected on 2024 and prepared for the year ahead, the Minister called for renewed resolutions to prioritize well-being and unity. “Let us commit to staying fit, staying active, and staying resilient. Together, let us rise above the challenges and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead,” he urged.
