MBABANE – The population of Eswatini has grown by 1.26 percent in a space of a year.
The population growth of 1.26 percent has happened between 2023 and 2024. This is according to Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Central Statistical Department Acting Director, Hanson Dlamini. He was giving a picture about the population of Eswatini and shedding light on the work done by the Central Statistical Office (CSO).
Dlamini stated that one of the key products of the CSO was the population figures. “In the year, the population of the country stands at over 1.2 million,” Dlamini said. He went on to state that out of the 1.2 million people were over 585 000 males and slightly over 616 000 were females.
“That gives us a population growth rate of 1.26 percent, if you compare the 2024 projected figures with the 2023 projected figures,” he said. Dlamini highlighted that the figures he gave were based on population and housing census of 2017.
He said looking at the trend of the population, more especially the population growth rate, it seemed to be going down. He said the population growth rate from 2007 to 2017 was around 0.7 percent. According to Dlamini, that was a very slow rate, considering that population census was done in every 10 years.
