GOVERNMENT CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL GAMBLING

MBABANE – In a bid to curb the proliferation of illegal gambling activities and protect Emaswati, the government has issued a stern warning against operating unlicensed gaming operations.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, the Gaming Control Act of 2024 prohibits any individual or entity from conducting gambling activities without a valid license or permit. The statement further emphasized that such activities must be restricted to designated gaming premises.

One of the major concerns raised by the is the accessibility of gambling machines to minors. The Act explicitly prohibits individuals under the age of 18 from engaging in any form of gambling or handling gaming machines. This measure aims to safeguard the vulnerable youth from the potential negative consequences associated with gambling addiction.

To enforce the provisions of the Act, the government has ordered those in possession of illegal gambling machines, such as slot machines, to dispose of them immediately. Failure to comply with this directive will result in punitive measures as outlined in the legislation.

In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, the government will conduct nationwide inspections to identify and confiscate illegal gambling machines. Offenders found in violation of the law will face prosecution.

The government’s crackdown on illegal gambling is an important step towards promoting responsible gaming and protecting the interests of Emaswati. By enforcing the Gaming Control Act, the government aims to create a safer and more regulated environment for gambling activities.
