MBABANE – Government has committed to work towards building the SADC University of Technology and Innovation.

Unpacking its 2023 to 2028 ‘Nkwe’ Policy Statement, Government has promised to implement this project, which was conceptualized back in 2016. This was during the SADC Summit, which was held in this country. The summit saw the participation of the Heads of State and Government from the SADC Region.

During the summit, the countries tasked Eswatini with a responsibility of building the university. “The Government would work towards establishment of a new university of technology and innovation targeting enrollment from the SADC region as well as the entire Africa Region,” said part of the statement.

According to Government, the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) would be revitalised to meet market demands, as well as to attract the best minds for training and development. This would be through a thorough review of academic programs offered by the University to be competitive in the region. “Government will not relent to produce more graduates, but will instead promote more relevant programmes needed for the desired future as well as for human capital export. The education curricula will be improved to reflect our African values and instill a winning mindset,” said the statement.

The curricula of vocational institutions, according to Government, would be strengthened with business acumen, introduction of new programmes relevant to local and regional industry as well as through construction of new vocational institutions.
