HARARE, ZIMBABWE – His Majesty the King on Saturday 17 August, 2024, joined other SADC leaders for a tour of a landmark waste management facility that has been initiated by the government of Zimbabwe.
The facility known as the Ponomo Waste Management Centre, is basically turning an undesirable dumpsite into an energy generator, water purification.
The King also witnessed the sod cutting ceremony for SADC Liberation Square project being undertaken by Zimbabwe which seeks to create a museum for African history. Eswatini was also invited to showcase its history once the project has been completed.
Among other leaders joining Zimbabwean President and new Chairperson of SADC, Emmerson Mnangagwa was Botswana President Mokgweetsi Mosisi and Madagasca President Andry Nirina Rojeolina. Members of the Eswatini delegation accompanying the king were the Deputy Prime Minister Thuli Dladla, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu, Minister for Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe, Eswatini High Commissioner to South Africa responsible for Zimbabwe, Lindiwe Kunene and King’s Private Secretary Mbongeni Simelane.
