MBABANE – The new theatres that were yesterday commissioned by Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula and Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang will also be beneficial to health workers.
Speaking during the ceremony held yesterday morning to officially commission the theatres, Minister Matsebula said the health workers would now be able to provide essential services and also hone their skills. The complex was a project that was made possible by support from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Matsebula said this facility was constructed and completed in record time, from 2017 to 2021, through the support of the Taiwan Government. The facility has been operational in almost all the floors, except some of the rooms, including the theatres.
Therefore, the full operationalisation of the Referral and Emergency Complex theatres will provide an opportunity for the country’s healthcare workers to provide essential services to the patients while also building their capabilities in emergency management and other surgical disciplines, according to the minister.
He further said the Ministry was therefore taking keen interest in the operationalisation of these three theatres for a number of reasons and he outlined some:
1. He said they were aware of the increase in the number of local medical specialists who were Emaswati, having been funded by Government, who needed additional working space. Therefore, the three theatres will provide the much-needed space.
2. He said there were a number of external experts, especially from Taiwan, who were in the country and more who would like to come into the country to utilise these theatres and provide services to Emaswati.
3. The minister said medical specialists who were assisting the country through the Phalala Fund had also expressed interest in providing specialised services in these theatres.
