MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini is impressed by the unity he saw being displayed by the Basotho people.
Dlamini said this yesterday (Saturday, October 5, 2024) upon his return from Lesotho, where he had gone to be part of that country’s 58th Independence Day celebrations, representing His Majesty King Mswati III. He returned through King Mswati III International Airport.
What the prime minister noted while he was still there, according to him, was that the Basotho people used their culture to unite themselves. They also used their heritage and their history as a nation to unite themselves. The Basotho people are 200 years old, since they started coming together as a nation.
Dlamini said the Basotho people were happy that even representatives from Eswatini were present to celebrate with them their Independence Day and the 200th Anniversary of that nation’s existence. He said they also got an opportunity to greet Basotho King Letsie III.
The premier said during their meeting with the Basotho king, they managed to send warm greetings from His Majesty King Mswati III and King Letsie III was happy because of that. Dlamini said they were well taken care of while in Lesotho.
During the celebrations, the Basotho nation committed themselves to improve their economy and social welfare. The celebrations were also witnessed by various Heads of State from the international community. These included a member of the British Royal Family Prince Harry.
Lesotho’s Independence Day celebrations took place on Friday (October 4, 2024) and the prime minister left the country on Thursday (October 3, 2024).
