MBABANE – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has described 2025 as one of the busiest years ever for the governing body.
Eswatini is a member of CAF and the country competes in majority of the African football mother competitions. According to a statement released on Monday (January 6, 2025) CAF described its calendar a packed 12 months ahead with continental finals across club and national team football.
CAF’s investment in youth and women’s football has added significantly to the calendar and a packed schedule awaits fans, with the start of both the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 and TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024 this year. Eswatini participated in the qualifiers for this tournament but did not make it.
Eswatini will be competing in tournament including the interclub competitions, junior tournaments and schools football as they are all also on the agenda as CAF schedules a diverse range of events to enhance the growth of the game on the continent.
CAN will open the busy calendar with the eighth edition of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, that Eswatini narrowly missed out against Madagascar.
Among the other events and competitions that Eswatini will be part of include the 14th CAF extraordinary general assembly that brings together the 54 Member Associations in Egypt, Cairo. It will be held in March 2025.
The CAF Extraordinary General Assembly will elect the CAF President, some CAF Executive Committee members (those due for elections) and also Members of the FIFA Council from Africa.
Then some of the tournaments include the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Champions League that will saw local teams taking part especially those who could have won the Ingwenyama Cup and the MTN Premier League respectively.
Another tournament will be the third edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship continental finals will be staged as the best Boys and Girls players to have advanced through their national and zonal qualifiers meet to determine the African champions.
The tournament will go on until the end of the year with Eswatini mostly playing in qualifiers.
