MATSAPHA – The stage is set for an exciting weekend of volleyball action as 26 national teams have confirmed their participation in the highly anticipated Scorpion International Volleyball Tournament, scheduled to take place from June 27 to 29.
Set to unfold in Matsapha, the tournament will bring together top-tier talent from both local and international teams, all vying for glory, dominance, and regional bragging rights. With just days to go, excitement is building as teams finalize their preparations for what promises to be one of the most competitive editions yet.
This annual tournament has grown in prestige, attracting a wide range of volleyball powerhouses from the SADC region. This year, international representation will include South Africa, Lesotho, and Botswana, while local powerhouses such as His Majesty’s Correctional Services, the Scorpion, Bot Cat ladies, Ace angels, Red skins, Bad News Zakhele, Mafolofolo and many others are set to battle it out on home soil.
Organizers have ensured that all logistics and safety measures are in place to deliver a smooth and entertaining experience for players and fans alike. Volleyball enthusiasts can look forward to action-packed matches, intense rivalries, and a celebration of international sportsmanship.
Correctional Sunrise coach Themba Sifundza, whose team is aiming for their third consecutive title, expressed cautious optimism. “We’re defending it for the third time. That’s pressure on its own, but the team is working hard at training. Looking at the number of teams participating, it’s a great build-up to Zone VI,” he said.
The Scorpion International Volleyball Tournament continues to serve as a platform for showcasing talent, promoting cultural exchange, and strengthening bonds through sport. All eyes will be on Matsapha this weekend as the tournament gets underway.
