MBABANE – The second and third round of the 2024 Eswatini World Teqball Championship qualifiers are set to take centre stage at the Olympafrica Sports Development Centre in Lobamba on Saturday and Sunday (July 27-28, 2024).
This weekend, the stakes are high as the 2024 World Teqball Championship Qualifiers are coming to a close. The tournament, which featured an acquisitive point system, began with 27 registered players competing in the singles and mixed Doubles category.
The duo of Taribo Bhembe and Nolwazi Ngwenyama emerged victorious in the mixed doubles category, while Bandile Hlophe emerged victorious in the singles competition after edging Mndeni Mbuyisa in the final match.
The singles category kicked off with four groups of three players each, with the top two players from each group advancing to the quarter finals while the mixed doubles category had eight teams registered and were divided into two groups. The top two teams from each category advanced to the semi-finals.
Organised by Teqball Eswatini, the Teqball World Championship qualifiers have been highly anticipated and have seen a number of talented players around the country coming together to compete for the chance to represent the country on the global stage.
Eswatini is preparing for the World Teqball Championship event that has been organised by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) to be held in November at a venue yet to be announced.
Teqball is a relatively new sport which combines elements of table tennis and football, with players their feet, knees and head to hit a ball over a curved bespoke table. The sport requires a combination of agility, coordination, and strategic thinking, making it an exciting and engaging sport to watch and play.
