BIG BEND – Talent galore!

Over 60 talented learners of Ndzevane and Gamula High Schools on Friday (August 9, 2024) participated in a schools dance workshop that was held at J Gamula High School Hall.

The workshop was facilitated by Eswatini National Dance Association executive members Nomcebo (a former Cyborg Girls’ Dancer) and Mtho, another member of the dance association. This was confirmed by teacher and arts director Sibusiso Gwebu, aka ‘Mr Sey.’

Worth noting is that the workshop was supposed to be held in Siteki, but due to the great numbers and activeness of the learners in the arts, the association was convinced to change their venue from Siteki to Big Bend, Gamula Hall.

When reached for comment, Gwebu said, “More than 60 learners who have a passion for dance attended the workshop, and it was just fireworks. Both schools presented various sets of dances, which include Amapiano, African dance, Kofifi dance, and Skhothane dance. The workshop started at 10am and ended at 2:30pm.”

It is worth mentioning that the art director at Ndzevane played a major role in the coordination of most things that pertain to the workshop. Which included the mobilisation of the dancers from the various schools, organising the sound system plus DJs, and inviting the association to come for the Big Bend Talent?

All the learners who attended the workshop were awarded certificates of training accomplishment by the Dance Association at the end. Also, some dancers who were chosen as the best will represent the region in the national dance competitions to be announced soon.

Some of the talented dancers have previously won at the Lubombo National Dance Competition in July, which has drawn the attention of the National Council of Arts and Culture and the Eswatini National Dance Association.
