ROME, ITALY – His Majesty the King has praised the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) for its youth-orientated objectives as it seeks to create food-self-sufficient countries.
He said the World Food Forum (WFF) 2024 theme ‘Good Food for All, For Today and Tomorrow’ that focusses on transforming agriculture systems for the benefit of all, including youth, women, indigenous and vulnerable populations, and farmers, was most appropriate.
He urged countries to work with FAO by focusing more attention on health diets, sustainable livestock, fisheries, and crops, biodiversity conservation, and responsible forest, wetland, soil, and water management.
“By fostering new pathways of action, including multi-sector and agent partnerships, the WFF aims to achieve a sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and hunger-free future for all,” he said.
The King highlighted that a sustainable transformation of food and agricultural systems is required globally at all levels.
This will require international cooperation, including regional and south-south cooperation, as well as engagement with different stakeholders.
“However, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. Policies have to consider local contexts, the impact of such transformations on the livelihoods of persons currently working in agriculture and the job opportunities available to them,” he said.
He said ‘Good food for all, for today and tomorrow’ means improved production, nutrition, environment and a better life for all, leaving no one behind.
“Join us and take action for agri-food systems transformation and for our shared future,” urged the King.
