D-DAY FOR SIHLANGU IN COSAFA CUP AS THEY FACE SOUTH AFRICA

News Sports
MBABANE – In the 2023 edition of the COSAFA Cup, the National team, Sihlangu was eliminated by hosts, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the last game of the group stages, with a 2-1 come back score.
Again, in 2024, the same teams will clash in the last fixture of Group A, with the winner being guaranteed a place in the semi-final stage of the tournament. There has been no winners for all the four teams in Group A being South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini and Mozambique.
They are all at two points each, with Sihlangu and Botswana yet to score a goal after two matches. South Africa and Mozambique were the only sides to score goals in Group A during their opening fixture.
Sihlangu, under the leadership of Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane is hoping to break the duck and score the much needed goals to see them move to the next stage of the tournament. A draw or a loss will not be enough to see Sihlangu going through.
The game will be played this afternoon at Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Stadium.
Ntibane said their focus was on scoring goals as it is the only thing that would see them progressing in the tournament. He said they had been able to create scoring chance in the past two games, but failed to convert.
Ntibane showed faith in the country’s young stars, who dominate the squad so far. Sihlangu have not conceded a goal against high ranked Botswana and Mozambique.
