MBABANE – And the contestants are!
The much-anticipated ‘Poetry In Comfort’ event, set to take place on December 7, 2024, at Millennium Park in Manzini, has officially unveiled the contestants for the exciting ‘Talent Search’ contest.
This unique initiative is designed to spotlight emerging poets and give them a vital platform to showcase their talents, marking a significant moment for the local arts scene.
A total of 20 upcoming poets have been selected to participate, each bringing their unique voice and style to the competition. Among the contestants are notable names such as Poet Smiso, Caregiver, Lokhozi, Melihle, and Sandz De Swazi Poet, to name just a few.
The selection process was rigorous and competitive, with poets submitting 45-second audition videos to demonstrate their skills and creativity. Sibonokuhle Simelane, the visionary director behind the event, expressed his excitement about the opportunity it presents for undiscovered talent. “We believe that this will change the poetry industry. We are giving amazing undiscovered talent a stage to showcase their work to the world,” Simelane stated.
The event will be structured into three segments, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for participants and attendees. The first segment, titled ‘Talent Search/Talent Appreciation,’ is a vital platform for these young poets to express themselves and connect with audiences. This segment is significant as it highlights the talents of poets who may not yet have had the opportunity to perform on larger stages, allowing them to gain valuable exposure and experience.
In addition to the talent search, attendees can look forward to a captivating poetry show headlined by the renowned Festival B-born Siphesihle Dlamini. This segment will feature established poets such as MoCats and Poetess Landa, who are expected to deliver powerful performances that inspire and entertain.
Jonokuhle Upholstery, synonymous with luxury and exquisite design, curates the event. Guests can expect to be treated to beautifully crafted sofas that embody elegance and comfort, creating an inviting and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Simelane elaborated,
“We are presenting the art space with a luxurious Poetry In Comfort outdoor concept. It is a self-explanatory idea—we want to provide an exclusive experience for poetry lovers and art enthusiasts, creating lasting memories rather than just an ordinary event.”
Under the theme “Let’s Meet over Brunch in Poetry and Style,” the event is designed to merge comfort with creativity. This unique approach invites attendees to enjoy a rich tapestry of performances that celebrate the art of spoken word and encourage a sense of community among poetry lovers. The line-up will also feature celebrated saxophonists Fakazi Samuel and Blessing Dludlu, ensuring diverse artistic expressions.
Simelane has encouraged poetry lovers, art enthusiasts, and young people to support this vital initiative, emphasising the importance of fostering local talent and uplifting the community’s art scene. “This is an opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the power of poetry,” he remarked.
Tickets for this exceptional event are now available at Platinum Barbershop in Manzini, priced at E100.
