MBABANE – The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) will go to their Executive elections with out-going President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa likely to retain the post.
Mthethwa will be up against another former EOCGA President Peter Shongwe. Mthethwa was nominated by 12 members while there was only one nominee for Shongwe. The nominations and the elections were announced by EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele on Thursday at the EOCGA Office sin Lobamba.
EOCGA will hold the elections during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on December 15 on a venue yet to be confirmed.
For the Vice-President post, Athletics Eswatini (AE) President will be up against World of Motor Sport Eswatini Chairman Nhlanhla Maphanga and Temangcamane Maseko who received one nominee. Dlamini was nominated by nine members while only three nominated Maphanga.
According to the profiles of the nominees released by EOCGA, President Candidate, Mthethwa was voted into office in 2021 while he served as Vice-President from 2000 to 2017. The former Senator also served as the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President from 1993 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2021.
Meanwhile, Shongwe’s profile include that he served as EOCGA President from 2017 to 21 and he was Treasurer and he currently the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI Treasurer.
