MBABANE – Eswatini’s swimming scene continues to shine on the global stage as Siwakhile Dlamini broke a 26-year-old record during the 25m World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Dlamini, currently based in Australia, achieved this milestone while on a one-year training scholarship at Bond University, courtesy of World Aquatics. Previously, Dlamini honed her skills in Thailand under another training scholarship last year.

The 18-24 age category swimmer clocked an impressive 1:04.39 in the 100m freestyle, shattering the previous record of 1:04.60 held by Gilbertson since 1998.

A Strong Start for Eswatini

The Budapest Championships kicked off on a high note for the Eswatini team, led by Coach Ndumiso Khoza of Penguins Aquatics. Dlamini’s achievement not only sets a new benchmark but also highlights the growing success of Eswatini’s swimmers on the international stage.

This record-breaking performance follows the recent success of three local swimmers in Namibia, where the Eswatini team brought home nine medals. The Namibian event saw Eswatini represented by 18 swimmers, showcasing the nation’s rising talent in competitive swimming.

Dlamini’s historic achievement serves as a source of pride for Eswatini and inspiration for aspiring swimmers back home, as the country continues to make waves in international waters.
