MBABANE – The government is set to tackle inefficiencies in public procurement as part of its broader efforts to improve service delivery.
Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini highlighted this priority while delivering the Government’s 2024 Performance Progress Report at the Cabinet Offices in Hospital Hill, Mbabane.
The PM acknowledged that inefficiencies in the procurement system were among the challenges facing Emaswati, along with issues in the health and education sectors. However, he emphasized that despite these challenges, there were significant milestones worth celebrating.
“While we celebrate these accomplishments, we must also confront the realities of discrepancies and inefficiencies in key sectors. The health and education sectors, for instance, require urgent attention to ensure equitable access and quality service delivery,” he said.
Dlamini also identified delays in capital projects and service delivery initiatives as critical areas requiring immediate intervention.
Despite the hurdles, the PM commended the government’s achievements, citing a positive trajectory for the country’s economy in 2024.
“The achievements of the past year reflect our unwavering commitment to steering Eswatini toward sustainable development. These milestones are not merely statistics; they represent real progress in building a resilient and prosperous nation,” he said.
He further highlighted key accomplishments, such as the establishment of financial instruments like the Stability Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which he said were pivotal in ensuring Eswatini’s sustainable financial future.
Additionally, Eswatini’s upgrade from junk status to an investment-grade rating by Moody’s was a significant milestone, reflecting international confidence in the country’s economic policies and governance. This achievement, Dlamini noted, positioned Eswatini as an attractive destination for large-scale investments, which would further boost the economy and create opportunities for citizens.
The PM extended his gratitude to the nation for its trust and support. He also recognized the contributions of the private sector, diplomatic allies, and development partners, stating that their collaboration was instrumental in the country’s progress.
Lastly, Dlamini expressed profound gratitude to His Majesty the King for his guidance and confidence in the government’s leadership.
“We remain profoundly indebted to His Majesty the King for his trust in our ability to lead,” he concluded.
