MBABANE – The Eswatini Conference of Churches has pledged unwavering support to the Shongwe family, offering solace and assistance after the passing of Bishop Dr. John Nash Shongwe, leader of Divine Healing Ministries.

Bishop Shongwe passed away on December 30, 2024, while receiving medical treatment in South Africa. His burial is scheduled for this Saturday at his ancestral home in Ekutsimuleni, Mkhiweni Inkhundla. Before the burial, a night vigil will be held at the family residence, preceded by a memorial service on Friday at Divine Healing Ministries in Manzini. Shongwe’s son, Bongani, confirmed that the late bishop’s body will arrive from South Africa tomorrow.

A Tremendous Loss

Bishop Shongwe’s death has deeply impacted many individuals and organizations, including the Eswatini Conference of Churches. Vice President Hamilton Malaza expressed the organization’s grief, describing Shongwe as a cornerstone of their community.

Speaking to EBIS, Malaza highlighted Shongwe’s dedication to uplifting the lives of others, both spiritually and materially. “He was committed to the growth of the Conference of Churches and the well-being of our members. He would even allow us to use his church hall for free and showed immense appreciation for our work,” Malaza shared.

Malaza recalled how Bishop Shongwe supported communities where he established church branches, often constructing facilities and providing aid to local residents. His efforts extended to elderly citizens, whom he supported with unwavering passion, and school-going children, whom he helped by covering tuition fees.

The vice president also conveyed condolences to the Shongwe family, emphasizing that their guidance would dictate the organization’s role in supporting the family during this period.

Community Tribute

Residents of Ekutsimuleni, led by former Mkhiweni MP Micheal Ndleleni Masuku, also extended heartfelt condolences. Masuku lauded Shongwe’s contributions to the community, describing him as a pillar of strength for both individuals and the chiefdom.

“Bishop Shongwe’s death is a profound loss, not only for his family but for the entire community. He supported elderly residents and schoolchildren, ensuring their well-being,” said Masuku.

As the nation prepares to bid farewell to this revered spiritual leader, his legacy of compassion, generosity, and community upliftment remains a beacon of hope and inspiration.
