MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has issued a stern warning to teams regarding the use of foreign substances (muti) during football matches.

PLE Football Manager Banele Masondo did not mince his words, stating that teams discovered violating the rules and regulations, particularly in this regard, will face consequences. Masondo emphasized that such actions tarnish the image of the game.

He made these remarks during a press conference for the four teams participating in the Y’ello Sunday event, scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

“We observed in the first round that some teams persisted in using foreign substances during matches, and as the PLE, we have taken a firm stance that all teams found guilty of this violation will be penalized,” he said.

This weekend marks the commencement of the second round of the MTN Premier League, following the conclusion of the first round a fortnight ago, where Royal Leopard secured the first round incentive of E100 000.

Additionally, Masondo encouraged supporters to continue purchasing tickets through the WhatsApp application and MoMo. He stated that tickets will be available at MTN outlets nationwide, allowing supporters to buy them from the comfort of their homes.

“Thanks to the fans who consistently attend our games; we urge them to keep up the good work. We have witnessed an increase in attendance since the introduction of pre-sale tickets. We will not be selling tickets at the gates as we have done in the past,” he remarked.

The Y’ello Sunday event will feature Manzini Sea Birds hosting Mbabane Swallows at 1:30pm, followed by Moneni Pirates facing off against Sidvwashini United at 4 pm. The cost to witness the doubleheader is E50.
