ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – His Majesty has shared with African leaders the country’s renewed commitment to a socio-economic transformation agenda which is aligned with the AU and UN goals.

He acknowledged the numerous challenges facing the world, including climate change, tensions, health crises and job creation, and reiterated the call for the implementation of African solutions for African problems.

In a statement submitted to the 38th African Union (AU) Summit which concluded yesterday, the King also expressed concern about ongoing conflicts on the continent, stating that without peace, development remains elusive.

His Majesty declared 2025 as a year of transformation when opening parliament on January 31st, describing it as one that is full of promise and new opportunities.

“We declare this year as the year of transformation to the promised land. It is the ending of one chapter and the beginning of a new one,” he said.

He also emphasised that it is a year in which the country needs to improve critical areas such as health care, education, job creation, science and technology, taking care of the elderly and the youth.

The AU agenda 2063 encapsulates Africa’s aspirations for the future and identifies key flagship programmes which can lead to the rapid transformation of the continent and boost its economic growth and development. The UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development is a plan of action to end poverty and hunger, improve people’s health and well-being, and protect the planet.
