MBABANE – The Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) has revised the cash declaration threshold for travellers at the country’s borders.
Effective immediately, anyone carrying E25 000 or more in cash must declare it upon entry or exit.
This adjustment follows the implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Amendment Act, which seeks to strengthen financial security and compliance measures. Previously, the declaration threshold was set at E15 000, but has now been increased to E25 000.
In a statement, ERS emphasized that the rule aims to prevent illegal financial activities while ensuring smooth passage for legitimate travellers. “This update aligns with international best practices in combating money laundering and financial crimes. We encourage all travellers to comply with the new requirement to avoid penalties,” ERS noted.
Travellers are advised to familiarize themselves with the updated cash declaration requirements and declare any amount above E25 000 at border points to facilitate a seamless travel experience.
