MBABANE – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has congratulated Dr Patrice Motsepe in his re-election as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
EFA made this expression on March 12, upon learning that the football administrator had been ere-elected unopposed at CAF. “The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) hereby extends its congratulatory expression to Dr. Patrice Motsepe for being re-elected unopposed as CAF President for another term (2025-2029),” reads part of the press release issued by the country’s football mother body.
According to EFA, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, during his initial term has transformed the image of CAF to greater heights as it is more appealing to the global football space. Under his guidance and leadership, some football development programmes were being pioneered which clearly demonstrated his vision and passion of developing African football.
The EFA further congratulated the elected CAF Executive Committee Members, and the African Football Representatives to the FIFA Council. “The EFA wishes the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, CAF Executive Committee Members, and the African Football Representatives to the FIFA Council all the best as they execute their responsibilities in their new terms of office,” concluded the press release.
According to CAF, the decision to re-elect Dr Motsepe was confirmed at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, extending his leadership of the organisation until 2029.
Motsepe’s re-election comes after a first term widely praised for stabilizing CAF’s finances and boosting its global profile.
Under his leadership, the organization set several new records at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cote d’Ivoire 2023, attracting a record 1.4 billion viewers worldwide.
Prizemoney for major tournaments, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, has also increased significantly, alongside enhanced financial support for Member Associations.
The 63-year-old faced no opposition after the nomination deadline passed in November 2024. His decision to run again followed requests from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders.
“The goal remains making African football globally competitive, stabilizing finances, and investing in infrastructure,” he said. Dr Motsepe’s unopposed re-election reflects both confidence in his leadership and the desire to see him elevate African football to new heights.
