NAMIBIA – In a powerful display of leadership, vision, and collaboration, Dr. Loretta Mkhonta, CEO of the Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC), has joined an elite team of Swazi change-makers currently engaging with the European Union in a mission that blends diplomacy with development.
Set against the backdrop of Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek, the engagement brings together some of Eswatini’s brightest minds to forge international partnerships that aim to uplift education, empower youth, and boost the nation’s skills capacity.
Dr. Mkhonta is part of a high-powered delegation led by Makhosini S. Mndawe, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. She is joined by Mboni Dlamini, Executive Secretary of the Eswatini Qualifications Authority, E. Nathi Dlamini, CEO of Business Eswatini, and Earnest Simelane, Director of Industrial and Vocational Training.
Their mission? To position Eswatini at the heart of continental conversations around education, innovation, and employment – and to make sure that the kingdom’s voice resonates in EU-funded programmes that are shaping Africa’s future.
The dialogue is supported by key figures from the European Union Delegation: Allen Dlamini, Programme Manager for Skills Development, and Rolf Strier, Team Leader for the EU Cooperation Facility. Together, they are exploring new ways to align Eswatini’s developmental goals with international support and expertise.
“It’s not just a meeting – it’s a movement,” said a proud insider. “Dr. Mkhonta’s presence signals that Eswatini’s higher education sector is ready to take bold steps forward and craft lasting global partnerships.”
At the heart of the engagement lies a simple but powerful truth: investing in people – particularly the youth – is the surest path to sustainable growth. As the delegation shares ideas and shapes strategy with EU partners, the message is clear: Eswatini is open for transformation.
With her calm authority and forward-thinking approach, Dr. Mkhonta continues to champion the role of higher education as a cornerstone of national development. Her work ensures that academic institutions are not just places of learning, but engines of opportunity, innovation, and empowerment.
As the sun sets over Windhoek and the talks continue, Eswatini can be proud that its flag is flying high – carried by leaders who believe in the future, and are building it one bold conversation at a time.
