MBABANE – Uncle Waffles bags nomination at BET Awards 2025!
Internationally acclaimed DJ and record producer Uncle Waffles, born Lungelihle Zwane, has earned a nomination at the 2025 BET Awards. The 25-year-old Eswatini-born star is nominated in the Best International Act category.
The 25th edition of the BET Awards will be held on June 9, 2025, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, will air live at 7 PM CT on BET (DStv Channel 129). The BET Awards celebrate excellence across music, sports, television, and film.
Uncle Waffles stands as the sole Liswati nominee, while fellow South African artists likeTyla received the same nomination. For Best New International Act), Dlala Thukzin, Maglera Doe Boy, and TxC also received nominations. This marks Uncle Waffles’ second BET nomination, her first being in 2023.
Her global impact continues to grow. Her latest hit, Wadibusa — released on April 19, 2024, and featuring Ohp Sage, Pcee, and Djy Biza — has surpassed 35 million views on YouTube. Her track Yahyuppiyah, featuring Pcee, EeQue, and Chley, remains her most-streamed song on Spotify.
Recognized as the “Princess of Amapiano” by Billboard, Uncle Waffles has also been spotlighted by Rolling Stone, Forbes, CNN, Variety, The New York Times, and Complex UK for her achievements in 2023, including the release of her EPs Solace and Asylum, Coachella performances, and sold-out global shows.
In addition, she appeared on the Valentine’s Day cover of Rolling Stone Africa in February, reinforcing her position as one of Africa’s most influential musical talents.
Uncle Waffles, who now resides in South Africa, also completed a major world tour titled Less Talk, More Piano, which launched in Paris and spanned five continents, concluding in Asia on November 29, 2024. With 2.8 million Instagram followers and a platinum debut single Tanzania, she continues to gain international acclaim — even catching the attention of global stars like Drake.
