MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has entrusted Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla with the high honour of representing the Kingdom of Eswatini at the II Brazil-Africa Dialogue on Food Security, Fight Against Hunger and Rural Development.
Speaking from King Mswati III International Airport before her departure to Brasília, Brazil, where the summit will be held from May 20–22, the DPM emphasized the significance of this mission, describing it as a bold step toward a hunger-free and self-sufficient Eswatini.
“This important invitation addressed directly to His Majesty by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reflects Eswatini’s growing role on the global stage in shaping food systems and advancing sustainable development,” she stated.
With heartfelt gratitude and a strong sense of national duty, DPM Dladla outlined her vision for the trip — a vision deeply aligned with His Majesty’s aspirations and the dreams of all Emaswati for a thriving, food-secure nation. She said her mission was not just diplomatic, but deeply symbolic of Eswatini’s collective resolve to ensure that “no one goes hungry and rural communities thrive.”
The Brazil-Africa Dialogue brings together thought leaders, policymakers, and innovators to collaborate on pressing challenges such as agricultural sustainability, nutrition, and rural infrastructure. These themes are central to both the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Eswatini’s national development goals.
Central to Dladla’s address was praise for the Ministry of Agriculture, which she lauded for playing a “foundational role” in enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening food system resilience. She highlighted the Ministry’s pivotal role in transforming dialogue into tangible progress for farmers and rural dwellers.
“In Brasília, I look forward to engaging in strategic discussions on sustainable agriculture, fair trade, and innovation to combat hunger,” she said. “We will present Eswatini’s progress, learn from fellow nations, and pursue partnerships grounded in shared knowledge and South-South cooperation.”
The DPM concluded with a call for national unity and prayerful support, expressing unwavering belief in Eswatini’s ability to shape a brighter, hunger-free future. “Together, and with the commitment of our institutions, we can build a future in which every citizen enjoys food security, dignity, and opportunity.”
Her journey to Brazil marks not just a mission of diplomacy, but a message to the world: Eswatini is ready to lead and collaborate in building a resilient, food-secure Africa.
