SIMUNYE- The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) has proudly concluded the second edition of the Sakhelene Community Soccer League, a vibrant competition uniting frontline communities through sport and healthy living. Backed by a generous E200,000 sponsorship, this initiative aims to empower youth, promote physical activity, and steer them away from negative influences such as substance abuse and crime.

The league brought together teams from communities including Hlane, Sihhoye, Nkambeni, and Manzana, fostering unity, talent development, and community engagement. Phindile Lukhele-Dlamini, RES’s Corporate Social Investment Manager, emphasized the initiative’s significance: “We take joy in helping our communities, especially the youth. By facilitating these league competitions, we provide opportunities for our young people to engage in positive activities.”

At a recent awards ceremony, Trevor Goolam, Chairman of the League Council, expressed gratitude for RES  ongoing support. “We are grateful to the Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation for their support. Their investment in our communities is making a significant difference,” he said.

Four communities Hlane, Nkambeni, Manzana, and Sihhoye have completed their leagues and were each awarded E20,000. The remaining five communities are in the final stages of competition, with anticipation growing as they compete for their share of the funding. These tournaments not only encourage physical fitness but also nurture teamwork and community spirit.

Local leader Spring Mahlalela praised the program, calling it “a beacon of hope for our communities,” highlighting its potential to drive lasting positive change. RES plans to collaborate closely with the communities to ensure the awarded funds are used effectively for youth development.

This initiative’s impact extends beyond immediate rewards. By engaging young people in constructive activities and skill-building, RES aims to nurture a generation equipped to make positive life choices. The partnership between RES and the communities reflects a shared commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development.

In Conclusion, RES E200,000 sponsorship and community awards mark a pivotal step in fostering healthier, more prosperous futures for the Sakhelene region, showcasing the power of corporate social responsibility in action.
