MBABANE– From podcasting to packed-out clubs, he’s redefining Swazi music culture worldwide.
With an unmatched presence on stage and behind the mic, Bab’ Dlamini, real name Sonke Dlamini, is quickly rising as one of Eswatini’s most dynamic and influential DJs. Hailing from Mbabane, this versatile creative moves seamlessly through Hip Hop, RnB, Afro Beats, Amapiano, and Kwaito, bringing electrifying energy to every club night, concert, private or corporate event he’s booked for.
Though he only began actively deejaying in early 2023, Bab’ Dlamini’s passion for music goes as far back as 2022 when he started as a music producer, crafting beats for local artists. He honed his production skills in private, creating and sharing beats using Virtual DJ, before eventually graduating to CDJs, a shift that would catapult his career from the bedroom to the club stage.

Originally playing at intimate parties and for close friends, Bab’ Dlamini quickly gained encouragement from peers who saw his talent for reading crowds and curating high-energy sets. This inspired him to move beyond producing for others and start spinning the same setlists himself. After countless practice sessions and open deck appearances, including notable nights at 23:28 Lounge and Deck Life Events, Bab’ Dlamini made his breakthrough while performing for an artist at Friends of Piano, a moment that set the tone for bigger stages ahead.
The name Bab’ Dlamini is more than just a brand; it’s a cultural statement. “The name started on the podcast,” he explains. “People used to call me ‘Ntate’ because of my formal tone, then I switched it up to ‘Bab’, took out the B and E, and Bab’ Dlamini was born.” As a proud Swazi, he adds: “It’s high time we teach the world our language. I chose to be among the few who carry that cultural pride into music.”
Outside of the DJ booth, Bab’ Dlamini is a leading voice in podcasting, helping push Eswatini’s entertainment narrative forward. But it’s his debut single “Zazazel”, featuring Amarii and Mad Uno, that solidified him as more than just a DJ, but a visionary artist. “The video has good vibes,” he says. “People should just enjoy the body of work we put together.”
With plans to release two more tracks, including a collab with Korrosive, Bab’ Dlamini shows no signs of slowing down. “There’s no specific message with ‘Zazazel’,” he adds with a laugh. “Just throw on a pair of shades and don’t forget your Zaza’s, whatever that means for you.”
“I’m not going to lie, balancing everything is tough,” he admits. “But every time I step into a role, I give it my absolute best.” Whether he’s rocking the crowd, laying down a beat, or recording an episode, Bab’ Dlamini does it all with undeniable passion.
