SANDLENI – The Council of Swaziland Churches brought much-needed vision support to Sandleni today by providing free reading glasses to residents aged 35 and above, including those from surrounding areas. The outreach was held at Sandleni Primary School and attracted over 70 people, most of whom were women.

The eye care outreach is part of the Council’s ongoing health-focused mission to improve the lives of people in rural areas through basic yet impactful services. Speaking during the event, Melusi Matsenjwa, Programmes Manager at the Council of Swaziland Churches, explained that the glasses are specifically designed to correct near vision, a common issue that affects adults as they age.

“These glasses help people see clearly when reading or doing close-up tasks,” Matsenjwa said.

The reading glasses are expected to last for up to two years, depending on how well they are taken care of. Matsenjwa encouraged recipients to handle them with care and added that if replacements are ever needed, people can visit the  Council’s office in Manzini, Madlenkhosi building,  just behind Dups.

The atmosphere at the school was one of joy and appreciation, with residents expressing their gratitude for the service. Titus Sithole, one of the beneficiaries, shared how the new glasses would make a difference in his life. “I’m very glad to receive the reading glasses. I’ll now be able to read without any problem,” he said.

This initiative not only addressed a practical health need but also restored confidence and independence for many community members who have been struggling with vision issues for years. For those who attended, the outreach proved that small acts of care can bring lasting impact, and clearer vision for everyday life.
