MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has dismantled a sophisticated document forgery syndicate operating in the heart of the capital.

The operation, spearheaded by the Financial and Economic Crimes Unit, was carried out yesterday morning at the bustling Commercial Centre in Mbabane. Inside an office disguised as legitimate, officers uncovered a full-scale forgery workshop producing fraudulent government documents.

Five Suspects Arrested

A total of five suspects, aged 23, 39, 44, 49, and 49, were apprehended on the spot. Among them was a civil servant, alleged to be the mastermind behind the illegal operation. Early investigations suggest the official had been unlawfully siphoning government stationery and authentic stamps, which were then used to produce counterfeit Vehicle Registration Certificates (Blue Books) and Bail Receipts.

The suspects are now headed to court, where they will face charges tied to their alleged criminal activities.

Protecting the Integrity of Public Institutions

Police officials hailed the operation as a critical step in safeguarding the credibility of national institutions. By shutting down the syndicate, REPS has not only prevented further financial harm but also restored public confidence in the systems that citizens rely on for justice and service delivery.

“This successful takedown shows our commitment to ensuring that public institutions are protected from abuse,” a police spokesperson said. “We will not tolerate those who undermine the integrity of our nation’s systems.”

Call for Public Vigilance

REPS has encouraged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. Citizens can use the toll-free lines 999/9999 or the Police WhatsApp line at +268 7999 1000.

A Victory for the Nation

The crackdown demonstrates the effectiveness of Eswatini’s security forces in tracking and dismantling organized criminal networks. It also sends a clear message: criminality will be confronted with determination, and the rule of law will always prevail.
