LONG ARM OF THE LAW: POLICE FOIL MAJOR SCAM

MBABANE – She thought her golden years would bring peace and dignity, but instead, a cruel deception robbed a 62-year-old pensioner of her hard-earned savings. Convinced by smooth-talking fraudsters that her E260 000 would magically multiply into E3 million, she handed over the money with dreams of helping her family. What she didn’t know was that she had walked into the clutches of seasoned scammers.

Today, justice caught up with the conmen. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), during a routine roadblock in Nkwene, arrested four men aged between 40 and 53, all linked to the 2022 case of Theft by False Pretense. The suspects, from Ticantfwini, Sihlutse, Thunzini, and Mangcongco, were found in possession of their “working tools” — stacks of plain paper topped with authentic banknotes, part of their ploy to convince victims that ordinary money could be “washed” into millions using special chemicals.

The breakthrough has not only brought hope to the Dlovunga pensioner but also reassured the nation that the long arm of the law never tires. REPS is now inviting anyone else who may have fallen victim to these men’s tricks to come forward and make formal reports.

This victory demonstrates the police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the vulnerable and ensuring that Eswatini moves closer to being a crime-free kingdom where justice prevails.
