MBABANE – The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) has once again proven that its mission extends beyond the field of play, showing a heart for humanity.

In a touching gesture, the Council donated bed sheets worth over E5 000 to Selulasandla Children Village in Mbabane  bringing smiles and comfort to the vulnerable children housed at the orphanage. The organisation also sweetened the day with treats for the children, spreading warmth and joy all around.

Speaking during the handover, ESRC Senior Marketing and Communications Officer, Dumisani Ntiwane, said the gesture was part of the Council’s broader vision of uplifting communities through acts of kindness.

“As small as the token may be, we are delighted to also contribute to the welfare of our children who are being accommodated here. In them, we see future athletes, swimmers, boxers, football players and everything else in our world of sports,” Ntiwane said.

He added that the Council understood the economic hardships facing many families and remained committed to helping where possible.

“We are an organisation that is in touch with the situation facing our people. That is why we never hesitate to help where we can. Even through our Shukuma Eswatini programme, we assist less privileged families with food hampers,” he explained.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the orphanage, Presiding Elder Albert Thwala expressed deep gratitude, describing the moment as an answered prayer.

“We are grateful to the Sports Council for such a generous gift. This will go a very long way towards helping the village realise its goals. We really are at a loss for words and wish such a spirit would prevail,” he said.

Selulasandla Children Village, located in Mbabane, is a haven for vulnerable and orphaned children, providing them with shelter, care, and education in a loving family environment. Founded on strong Christian values, the village aims to restore hope and dignity to children who have lost parental care by nurturing them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Beyond meeting their basic needs, Selulasandla focuses on building character and self-reliance, ensuring that every child grows into a responsible and empowered member of society.

The ESRC’s visit served as a reminder that the spirit of sport is not only about winning medals, but also about uplifting lives, fostering unity, and spreading hope to those who need it most.
