MBABANE — FNB Eswatini and the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) yesterday hosted a collaborative fraud-sensitisation workshop at the bank’s Head Office in Ezulwini, bringing together key stakeholders to equip staff with the latest knowledge on fraud trends, detection and prevention ahead of the festive season.

The workshop forms part of FNB’s wider Fraud Awareness Campaign, which targets both employees and customers. During the session, employees were briefed on current scams circulating in the country and were taken through practical methods of identifying and preventing fraudulent activity.

REPS facilitators also used the platform to encourage FNB staff to tighten security at their homes, urging them to invest in measures such as fencing, clearing overgrown bushes, and installing cameras, alarm systems and related safety tools.

FNB Chief Risk Officer Gugu Matiwane said investing in staff capacity was a direct investment in customer safety. “It is important for us that, firstly, our employees know about fraud and are protected. Furthermore, when our people know about fraud and have been well capacitated, they are in a better position to also adequately advise our customers, spot threats and ensure that we stop fraudsters. We are grateful to the Royal Eswatini Police Service for their continued support of our fraud awareness initiatives,” she said.

Director of the Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit in the REPS, Nicholas Jele, commended the bank for prioritising the safety of its workforce. “We were here to raise fraud awareness as we usher into the festive season. We know that this is a period when scammers try their luck with defrauding people. During the session, we also encouraged detection and reporting of fraudulent activities. This workshop is a strong indicator of the solid relationship that exists between REPS and FNB Eswatini,” he said.

Matiwane further urged customers to remain vigilant as the festive season draws closer. “If you have any doubts about the authenticity of communication you are receiving regarding your bank account, immediately call our toll-free number on 800 6100,” she added.

REPS representatives at the session included Assistant Inspector Bheka Masilela, Sergeant Mlungisi Malinga and Constable Badelisa Magagula.
