MANZINI– Manzini Aces (Masekweni) were crowned champions of the Moneni Community League Easter Tournament after defeating Moneni United 1-0 in an exhilarating final held in Moneni during the Easter celebrations, earning E7 000 in prize money from a tournament sponsored by Mr Sipho Sibandze.
The exciting finale delivered thrilling football action as both teams fought hard for the title. Manzini Aces showed strong determination and teamwork throughout the match, managing to score the only goal of the game, while Moneni United struggled to find the target despite creating several scoring opportunities.
The tournament, sponsored by Mr Sipho Sibandze, attracted strong community support and highlighted local talent. Sibandze has pledged to continue supporting the Easter tournament next year, ensuring that the event remains a key sporting highlight in the Moneni community.
The prize distribution ensured that multiple teams benefited, reinforcing the tournament’s community-driven vision. Champions Manzini Aces walked away with E7 000, while runners-up Moneni United received E5 000. Semi-finalists each earned E3 000, teams finishing in fifth and sixth place received E1 500 each, and the remaining six teams were awarded E1 000 each for participation.
The total prize allocation stood at E27 000 for teams, complemented by E4 000 dedicated to trophies and medals, and E6 000 covering administration and referees. Additional allocations included E5 000 for social teams and girls’ prizes, as well as E5 000 for miscellaneous expenses.
In addition to the men’s competition, the knockout tournament also featured ladies’ soccer matches and legends games, highlighting the inclusive and community-driven nature of the event.
This year’s tournament not only celebrated local football talent but also strengthened community spirit and engagement by bringing together players, supporters, and organisers during the Easter festivities. Residents praised the initiative for creating opportunities for young players and promoting unity through sport.
