MATSAPHA – The Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Simelane, has hailed the Swazi Rally as one of Eswatini’s most significant tourism drivers, emphasizing its growing contribution to the national economy, job creation, and international visibility.
Speaking during the official launch of the 2026 Swazi Rally at Xtreme Trading in Matsapha on Thursday, Simelane said the Kingdom was experiencing remarkable growth in tourist arrivals, with visitor numbers rising significantly during the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
The Minister revealed that Eswatini has already reached its target of two million visitors while steadily advancing toward its long-term goal of generating E2 billion in tourism revenue. She attributed part of this success to major events such as the Swazi Rally, which continues to attract thousands of visitors from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and beyond.
“Events such as the Swazi Rally keep our tourism industry vibrant and contribute immensely to economic growth,” said Simelane. “We have witnessed visitors travelling from neighbouring countries and even Europe to experience this unique festival.”
Now celebrating its 33rd anniversary, the Swazi Rally has evolved into one of the country’s flagship tourism events. The Minister applauded organizer Carlos “Babe” Paiva and his team, together with sponsors and partners, for sustaining the event over more than three decades.
She highlighted the rally’s impact on various sectors, including hospitality, transport, entertainment, informal trading, crafts, restaurants, guesthouses, hotels, and game parks. According to Simelane, last year’s event generated more than E60 million in economic activity during the rally period.
The Minister also welcomed the rally’s commitment to youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and community development. This year’s programme includes opportunities for young artists and entrepreneurs, while a partnership with the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) will promote road safety awareness throughout the festival.
Scheduled for August 28–30, 2026, the Swazi Rally will feature international stunt riders, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and corporate social responsibility initiatives, including support for the Women Farmer Foundation.
Simelane encouraged emaSwati and visitors alike to attend the event, describing it as a celebration of tourism, culture, economic opportunity, and community spirit.
