MBABANE– Stronger regional partnerships are opening new opportunities for businesses and communities after the Municipal Council of Mbabane joined leaders, investors and entrepreneurs at the Matola Business Forum and Trade Fair 2026 in Mozambique, reinforcing its commitment to economic growth and cross border cooperation.
Led by His Worship the Mayor, Thulani Mkhonto, the Mbabane delegation attended the forum at the invitation of its sister city, Matola. The annual gathering brought together policymakers, business leaders and investors from across the region to explore new opportunities for trade, investment and sustainable urban development.
The visit highlighted the long-standing relationship between Mbabane and Matola, with both cities reaffirming their shared commitment to creating thriving local economies through collaboration. The partnership is expected to benefit businesses, entrepreneurs and residents by encouraging the exchange of ideas and strengthening regional economic links.
During the forum, the Mbabane delegation held strategic bilateral discussions focused on increasing trade and investment opportunities between businesses in Eswatini and Mozambique. Leaders also explored practical ways of improving infrastructure development and municipal service delivery by sharing experiences and successful urban management practices.
Another key priority was expanding market access for local entrepreneurs. The discussions emphasised the importance of creating pathways for small and medium-sized enterprises to reach regional markets, allowing businesses to grow beyond national borders while contributing to job creation and economic resilience.
Mayor Mkhonto said partnerships such as the one between Mbabane and Matola demonstrate the value of regional cooperation in building competitive and investment-friendly cities. He noted that engaging with neighbouring countries helps position Mbabane to benefit from emerging economic opportunities while promoting innovation and sustainable development.
The delegation also expressed appreciation to the City of Matola, led by Mayor Júlio José Parruque, for hosting the event and strengthening the sister-city relationship through meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
As Southern Africa continues to pursue greater regional integration, Mbabane’s participation in the Matola Business Forum and Trade Fair reflects the city’s determination to build lasting partnerships that support inclusive economic growth, empower local businesses and create new opportunities for future generations.
