MBABANE – India has appointed senior diplomat Anand Prakash as its new High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Eswatini, succeeding outgoing High Commissioner N. Ram Prasad.
Prakash was appointed to the position in August 2026 as part of a new round of diplomatic appointments by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
According to Indian publication Indian Masterminds, the appointment was announced on August 6, 2026, with Prakash designated as India’s next High Commissioner to Eswatini.
Prakash is currently serving as a Director at India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. He has held several positions within the ministry as well as diplomatic assignments abroad.
His career has included responsibilities in foreign policy, administration and regional diplomacy, giving him experience across different areas of India’s international engagement.
Before his latest assignment, Prakash served as a Director in the ministry’s SE Division. He also previously served as Director (Administration) at the Indian Council for World Affairs in New Delhi.
In 2023, he headed desk operations in the Latin America and Caribbean Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
His overseas diplomatic experience includes a posting at the Embassy of India in Brasília, Brazil, where he served as Second Secretary (Consular) and Head of Chancery from 2018 to 2021.
Prakash is a member of the 2009 batch of the Indian Foreign Service and has also participated in India’s Mid-Career Training Programme, which covers areas including economic diplomacy, trade alignment and India’s evolving global engagement.
His appointment will see him take charge of India’s diplomatic mission in Eswatini, succeeding N. Ram Prasad, who has served as India’s High Commissioner to the Kingdom.
The appointment comes as India continues to strengthen its diplomatic and bilateral engagement with countries across Africa, including Eswatini.
Prakash’s combination of experience at India’s foreign ministry, diplomatic missions abroad and international affairs institutions is expected to shape his new role as India’s representative in the Kingdom.
India and Eswatini maintain diplomatic relations covering areas of mutual interest, with cooperation extending across political, economic and development-related engagements.
