MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini and outgoing High Commissioner of India to Eswatini, H.E. N. Ram Prasad, have expressed appreciation for the recently opened Eswatini Embassy in India, describing the diplomatic presence as an important development in relations between the two countries.
The appreciation was shared during Prime Minister Dlamini’s farewell meeting with Ram Prasad at the Private and Cabinet Office.
Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli said both the Prime Minister and the outgoing Indian envoy expressed their appreciation for the recently opened Eswatini Embassy in India.
The development adds a significant dimension to the two countries’ diplomatic engagement, as Eswatini strengthens its direct representation in India.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Dlamini also reflected on Ram Prasad’s tenure and highlighted the enduring friendship and fruitful bilateral relations between Eswatini and India.
Education was singled out as one of the key areas of cooperation, with the Prime Minister noting that many emaSwati had benefited from scholarships and training opportunities provided by the Government of India.
Dlamini described these opportunities as an important contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the proposed Parliament Building project, which did not materialise during Ram Prasad’s tenure.
He noted the outgoing High Commissioner’s hope that his successor would continue to advance the project towards fruition.
Ram Prasad is leaving the post as India prepares for a change in its diplomatic representation in the Kingdom, following the appointment of Anand Prakash as the new High Commissioner of India to Eswatini.
The appointment of Prakash was previously reported exclusively by Eswatini Positive News, based on an announcement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Prakash, a senior Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as a Director at India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi and has experience in both headquarters and overseas diplomatic assignments.
The transition comes against the backdrop of what the Prime Minister described as warm relations between Eswatini and India.
Dlamini expressed appreciation to Ram Prasad for his service and contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries, and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The recognition of Eswatini’s newly opened embassy in India by both the Prime Minister and outgoing High Commissioner further underscores the importance attached to strengthening direct diplomatic engagement between Mbabane and New Delhi.
