LOBAMBA– Princess Sakhizwe has described this year’s Umhlanga Reed Dance as a special occasion, being the first to take place following Eswatini’s historic double celebration, while congratulating His Majesty King Mswati III on his Ruby Jubilee and commending his leadership
Princess Sakhizwe shared the sentiments today while travelling from Eludzidzini Royal Residence to Engabezweni, saying she was happy to be part of the first Umhlanga following the country’s double celebration.
She congratulated His Majesty on the milestone, saying Imbali appreciated and recognised his leadership, which she said had contributed to peace in the country.
“We congratulate His Majesty as Imbali and commend his reigning skills. The country is at peace,” she said.
The Princess also expressed her gratitude to Imbali for turning up in large numbers for the 2026 Umhlanga, while inviting those who are yet to arrive to join the annual cultural gathering.
She said Imbali were equally looking forward to Thursday’s reed harvesting, signalling their readiness to fulfil the important cultural duty.
“Even us, we are ready for the reed harvesting day which is tomorrow,” she said.
Thursday will mark Day Three of the 2026 Umhlanga, with the young maidens expected to proceed to Masundvwini to harvest reeds after His Majesty commissioned them to undertake the tas
Meanwhile, the older maidens will harvest reeds at Mphisi Farm, in line with tradition.
The 2026 Umhlanga carries added significance as it follows the country’s double celebration, which brought together the celebration of His Majesty’s Ruby Jubilee and Eswatini’s national milestone.
For Princess Sakhizwe, the occasion provides an opportunity for Imbali to honour His Majesty, celebrate the country’s peace and continue upholding the cultural traditions that remain central to Eswatini’s identity.
