MBABANE – The 6.5-kilometre Siphocosini–Mvambi D78 Road has been upgraded to improve year-round access to schools, clinics and communities along the Siphocosini–Motjane corridor, easing travel difficulties that previously worsened during the rainy season.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MoPWT), facilitated by AG Thomas, has upgraded the road to an asphalt pavement standard, providing a more reliable route for motorists, pedestrians and public transport operators.
Works completed include paving of the road, installation of road signage, construction of water drainage systems and marking of bus bays. The road has already been opened to the public, with road painting remaining as the final outstanding work.
The upgraded section now connects with the previously completed Mvambi–Sigangeni road, improving connectivity between communities within the corridor.
The road serves schools and clinics in Siphocosini, Mvambi, Sigangeni and Motjane, with the improved route expected to make access to these public amenities more dependable.
Before the rehabilitation, the gravel-surfaced road and low-level crossings became slippery and flooded during the rainy season, making it difficult for buses and other vehicles to navigate the route.
The challenges also affected learners travelling to school and disrupted the movement of goods, affecting trade and livelihoods in communities along the corridor.
The latest upgrade forms part of the phased rehabilitation of the Siphocosini–Motjane D78 Road and brings the route closer to providing reliable, all-season connectivity for residents.
