BUHLENI– Buhleni Town Council is in talks with Government for funding to develop a bulk water and sewer system for the town, with the estimated cost of bringing water to Buhleni having more than doubled from E90 million in 2018 to over E180 million.
The council said the E90 million estimate was made in 2018 and that the cost had “obviously” more than doubled since then.
“We are talking to government to assist with the funding of a bulk Water and Sewer system for the town. In 2018, bringing water to the town was estimated at E90 million and obviously, the figure has more than double,” the council said.
FUNDING NEEDED
The council’s discussions with Government are centred on securing funding for the proposed bulk water and sewer system, which would address the town’s need for water and sewer infrastructure.
The increase in the estimated cost from E90 million to more than E180 million highlights the financial challenge involved in developing the infrastructure.
For Buhleni Town Council, securing financial assistance from Government will therefore be important in taking the proposed project forward.
RISING COST OF DEVELOPMENT
The significant increase in the estimated cost comes eight years after the original E90 million estimate was made in 2018.
The council’s latest figure indicates that the amount required for the project has increased substantially since the initial assessment.
This means that funding discussions will now have to take into account the higher estimated cost of developing the bulk water and sewer system.
BUHLENI’S INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS
The proposed project is part of the broader infrastructure needs facing Buhleni as the town develops.
A reliable bulk water and sewer system is an important component of urban infrastructure, particularly as the town continues to operate under its urban municipality status.
The council is now looking to Government for assistance to bridge the funding gap and make the proposed infrastructure development possible.
