SIDVOKODVO – The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has recognised four individuals and teams for their contribution to workplace safety, environmental responsibility and the promotion of a stronger safety culture.
The recognition took place during the EEC Safety Indaba 2026 at The Luke Commission Centre in Sidvokodvo on September 17, 2026, under the theme “Anchoring All Business to Safety.”
The Safety Culture Recognition Awards formed part of the Indaba’s focus on making safety an everyday responsibility across the organisation, with employees encouraged to identify risks, report hazards, protect the environment and influence colleagues to adopt safe working practices.
The four recipients were Madlangempisi Depot, Mr Linda V. Zwane, the Transmission Lines team and Mr Luyanda Ndzimandze, each recognised for demonstrating commitment to safety in different areas of EEC operations.
Introducing the awards, EEC GM Corporate Services Noncedo Mabuza said safety was ultimately brought to life through the actions, decisions and standards upheld by employees.
“Ultimately, safety is brought to life by people — by the way they do things, decisions they make, and the standards they uphold,” Mabuza said.
She explained that the awards were an internal EEC initiative intended to recognise employees and teams that consistently demonstrate meaningful commitment to safety.
Mabuza said safety leadership could be seen in everyday actions, including speaking up when a hazard is identified, encouraging colleagues to follow safe practices, responding quickly when something goes wrong and keeping safety on the agenda even when nobody is watching.
The Safety Excellence Award was presented to Madlangempisi Depot for its outstanding commitment to safety, proactive risk management and consistent promotion of a strong safety culture.
The recognition highlighted the importance of continuously identifying risks, taking corrective action and encouraging employees to work safely.
The Safety Culture Ambassador Award went to Mr Linda V. Zwane for his exceptional commitment and passion for making safety a way of life.
The award recognised the role of individual employees in influencing workplace behaviour through positive attitudes, personal example and encouraging colleagues to make safe choices.
The Excellence in Environmental Performance Award was presented to the Transmission Lines team.
The team was recognised for its proactive approach to reporting environmental incidents, responding promptly to minimise environmental impacts, taking accountability and addressing environmental incidents effectively.
The award also highlighted the link between safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.
The final recognition, the SHE REP Award, was presented to Mr Luyanda Ndzimandze for his contribution to promoting a safe and healthy working environment.
Ndzimandze was recognised for proactively identifying and reporting hazards, supporting Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) initiatives and contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening safety across EEC.
The awards demonstrated that safety responsibility extends beyond a single department or job title. Employees at different levels can contribute by identifying risks before they become incidents, reporting concerns, protecting the environment, supporting colleagues and taking accountability for their own safety and that of others.
Mabuza also encouraged the recognition of employees who consistently contribute to building stronger safety cultures, noting that celebrating positive behaviour sends a message that such commitment matters.
The four recipients were congratulated for their contributions, with the recognition also serving as an encouragement to continue upholding the standards that earned them the awards.
The Safety Indaba further reinforced EEC’s commitment to embedding safety into its daily operations, decision-making and organisational culture.
The event therefore went beyond celebrating individual and team achievements. It highlighted the broader responsibility of every employee to contribute to a workplace where safety remains central to how business is conducted.
As EEC continues its safety journey, the recognition of the four recipients provided a practical reminder that a strong safety culture is built through consistent actions, responsible decisions and employees willing to speak up and lead by example.
The message from the Indaba was clear: anchoring all business to safety begins with people making safety part of their everyday work.
