MBABANE— Beneath the roar of engines and the excitement of the open road, a different side of the biker community is taking centre stage, one built on service, solidarity and giving back.

As the inaugural +268 MCC Rally gets underway in Mbabane, the +268 MCC Bikers are using the gathering to highlight a message that goes beyond motorcycles: being a biker is not only about the ride, but also about making a difference in the community.

President of the +268 MCC Bikers, The Duke, reflected on the growth of the biker community over the past two years, saying bikers and motorcycle clubs have increasingly become involved in community initiatives by offering their time, finances and resources to causes around them.

“Being a biker is also about doing good,” said The Duke.

The message comes as the rally brings together bikers and members of the wider community for a weekend centred around riding, entertainment and interaction. Riders have also taken part in a ride around Mbabane, bringing the biker culture directly into the city and giving residents an opportunity to engage with the community.

For The Duke, this represents a shift in how bikers are perceived.

“Gone are the days where bikers were known to be rogue elements in society… Bikers today, I can comfortably say through my experience, are angels on motorbikes,” he said.

The changing perception, according to The Duke, is backed by the involvement of bikers in initiatives aimed at supporting communities. Their contribution has extended beyond simply attending motorcycle events, with clubs putting resources and personal effort towards causes identified within their communities and beyond.

The rally therefore serves as more than a gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts. It provides a platform for bikers to connect with one another while also demonstrating their relationship with the communities in which they operate.

For residents and visitors in Mbabane, the presence of riders offers an opportunity to see the people behind the helmets and motorcycles — individuals who are also contributing to causes that affect communities.

As the engines continue to roar through the capital, the +268 MCC Bikers are driving home a message that their identity extends beyond the machines they ride.

For them, the journey is not only about where the road leads, but also about the difference they can make along the way.
