MATSAPHA – October 19 has been announced as National Fire Day, with the Eswatini National Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service (ENFERS) set to commemorate the occasion at Matsapha International Airport.

The event will be held under the theme, “ADVANCING FIRE SAFETY, RESCUE AND NATIONAL SERVICE IN THE SPIRIT OF AGAPE LOVE,” highlighting the importance of fire safety, emergency response and the dedication of firefighters in protecting lives and property across the Kingdom.

His Majesty the King is expected to grace the event and the Chief Fire Officer , Luke Lushaba, has invited members of the public to join the service in celebrating the day and recognising the efforts, commitment and sacrifices made by firefighters in carrying out their duties.

National Fire Day will also provide an opportunity for ENFERS to showcase its work and share its achievements in emergency response. The service has recorded numerous milestones and success stories in responding to emergencies, demonstrating its role in safeguarding communities throughout the country.

Members of the public attending the commemoration will have an opportunity to witness live rescue demonstrations and safety exhibitions, offering a first-hand look at the skills and procedures used by firefighters during emergency situations.

The demonstrations are expected to provide practical insights into rescue operations and fire safety, while highlighting the importance of public awareness and preparedness in preventing emergencies and minimising risks.

The theme places emphasis on advancing fire safety and rescue services while embracing the spirit of agape love, which reflects selfless care, compassion and service to others.

Through their work, firefighters often respond to dangerous situations to save lives, protect property and assist communities in times of crisis. National Fire Day therefore offers an opportunity to recognise their contribution and the sacrifices associated with emergency service.

The commemoration at Matsapha International Airport will bring the service and members of the public together to celebrate the work of ENFERS while raising awareness about the importance of fire prevention, rescue operations and national service.

The public has been encouraged to attend and participate in the activities as the country recognises the role of firefighters in protecting lives and property.
