ACTRESS GCEBILE’S FOUNDATION MAKES TOP 5 IN SA AWARDS

MBABANE – Local actress Gcebile Dlamini’s Foundation has been recognised by the Gauteng Provincial Government as a top 5 entry to the finals in the Social Transformation Excellence Category for the 2024 Gauteng Disability Rights Excellence Awards.

Dlamini got the recognition last week Tuesday (3 December 2024).When reached for comment, Dlamini shared with this publication that she started the non- profit was formally registered in 2023. For the foundation she works with young people from inner-city Johannesburg with Johannesburg Child Welfare.

She said, “On the foundation I also work with the Johannesburg Society of the Blind and disabled children. The foundation collaborates with three other foundations,” shared Dlamini.

She also shared that they have previously won three awards. When asked how she felt about being honoured by the Gauteng Provincial Government, she said, “I feel excited and happy, more so because it’s not easy to get recognised when working in the disability space.”

Dlamini went on to reveal that she had previously gotten awards before, but they were always attached to specific spaces but were not highlighting her actual work.

She added, “This is big for me to be recognised by the Gauteng Premier. It means a lot to me; it’s a dream come true. I was actually nominated by someone, and I got it.”

Dlamini, who hails from Manzini, also plays a role on the South African ETV soapy, Scandal!

In April this year she celebrated a year since she joined the most-watched TV soap opera, Scandal, which airs on ETV on weekdays at 7:30pm. She portrays the role of MaHilda.

Scandal is the second-most-watched soapy, following Uzalo.. The first episode aired on January 3, 2005. The storyline is based on the constant conflicts, intrigues, family feuds, and shameful secrets of the people involved in the Jonesburg media house. It was created by Gloria Medupe.

Dlamini has acted on Judge Thenjiwe, Housemates, Skeem Saam, Abangani short stories, and short films, as well as directing backstage, and just got the TV advertisement gig. She won the Naledi Award. Dlamini is a drama mentor at Dumisani Masilela Theatre and director at Johannesburg Independent Community Theatre.
