LOBAMBA – Ensuring food security remains a priority for Eswatini, with government committing to producing all the food consumed within the country. King Mswati III highlighted ongoing agricultural initiatives aimed at achieving self-sufficiency.
To combat the effects of climate change, the King has stated that farmers have taken advantage of government-subsidized tractor hire services, leading to an anticipated increase in maize production in 2025. Additionally, the King disclosed that government is investing in the construction of small and medium-sized multipurpose dams to provide year-round irrigation for farmers.
Another major initiative is the development of an agricultural distribution center and cold storage facility at KM III International Airport to support commercial farming. The explained that these efforts are expected to boost agricultural productivity, reduce food imports, and enhance food security.
With continued government support, Eswatini’s agriculture sector is poised to thrive, ensuring long-term sustainability and economic resilience.
