MBABANE – In a significant step towards preserving the nation’s athletics legacy, Athletics Eswatini (AE) has officially launched the AE Documentary Committee which took place at Sigwaca House yesterday.
The initiative aims to research, document, and compile a comprehensive report on the history of athletics in Eswatini, providing future generations of athletes with a deeper understanding of their roots and the evolution of the sport in the country. The launch event marked the beginning of a major project that promises to shed light on the stories of past athletic icons, key milestones, and the development of athletics in Eswatini.
Leading the newly formed committee is Nosipho Mnguni former sport journalist, who brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role. Joining her are a diverse team of eight members composed of former journalists and athletes who each carry a deep passion for the sport and a commitment to its legacy. The team includes Dumsani i Ntiwane, Comfort Jele, Linda “Master” Dlamini, Thoba Dlamini, Thabiso “TK” LaNgwenya, and Haziel Mthethwa.

Speaking at the launch, AE president Zakhele Dlamimi emphasized the importance of documenting the history of athletics as a way to inspire the next generation and honor those who paved the way. The committee will engage an in-depth research, interviews, and archival reviews to compile an authentic narrative of Eswatini’s athletics journey.
“The AE board has seen it fit to establish a committee of great minds that will document our athletics history, history that will tell us who, how, when, and where was Eswatini athletics established. Said Dlamini “The core purpose and aspiration, significant events and accomplishments throughout our history of existence, history about key individuals such as athletes, coaches, and administrative. This initiative is not about the past but it is about the future, restoring dignity, renewing hope and rebuilding unity.” Added Dlamini
He further added that many of our heroes faded into silence without sharing their experiences with the nation and the future generations. He mentioned that documenting the history of athletics will give them a voice and through the voice they will give rise to a stronger relevant, competent and more grounded athletics federation.
The committee’s work is expected to culminate in a published report and potentially a documentary, serving as both an educational tool and a tribute to the pioneers of Eswatini athletics.
Athletics Eswatini has called on the public, especially those with historical information, photographs, or memorabilia and the media to support the committee in this groundbreaking effort.
