MBABANE– A new chapter is unfolding for basketball in Eswatini. The Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE) has issued a heartfelt call to sponsors, inviting them to join hands in propelling the sport to new heights and unlocking opportunities for young talent across the nation.
During the official handover of E117,000 in funding for a coaching course held at the EOCGA offices, BASE representatives highlighted that while Eswatini has yet to make its mark on the international basketball scene, this is set to change. The association’s renewed focus is on building competitive teams that can proudly represent the Kingdom on regional and global platforms.
“Our aim is to bring back basketball in Eswatini. We appeal to sponsors to support our local basketball at all levels — schools, juniors, and seniors,” said BASE’s Motsa.
Sponsorship, he explained, plays a pivotal role in nurturing talent and ensuring the sport’s sustainability. With greater investment, players and clubs can access the exposure and resources needed to compete beyond Eswatini’s borders.
The association noted that initiatives such as the Olympic Solidarity-funded coaching programme have already enhanced the sport’s technical foundation. However, additional financial backing is needed to strengthen player development, organize competitive leagues, and prepare teams for upcoming regional and continental tournaments.
Looking ahead, BASE remains optimistic. With strengthened partnerships and growing support from the corporate community, Eswatini’s basketball is poised to shine on the international stage — inspiring a new generation of athletes and fans alike.
