MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has stated that while healthy debate and differing viewpoints are part of any effective governance structure, Cabinet remains united in its mission to serve the Nation.

He made these remarks when he appeared before the Members of Parliament (MPs) who are members of the portfolio committee of the Prime Minister’s Office. The MPs were debating the 2024/25 annual performance of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The premier assured the MPs that no travel restrictions had been imposed on ministers. He took the opportunity to clarify concerns regarding alleged divisions within Cabinet and reports of travel restrictions on Cabinet Ministers. He assured Parliament that while healthy debate and differing viewpoints are part of any effective governance structure, Cabinet remains united in its mission to serve the Nation.

Furthermore, he explained that all external travel requests are assessed based on national interest and strategic priorities. The discussions addressed a range of important national issues, including economic growth, service delivery, healthcare, education, governance, and the welfare of law enforcement officers, among others.

Members of Parliament raised critical and thought-provoking questions, as is their duty in representing the Nation. In line with standard procedure, the Prime Minister’s Office would provide comprehensive responses to these inquiries.

However, he also took the opportunity to address some of the pressing concerns, including the Government’s contingency plan following the United States Government’s decision to withdraw foreign aid. He acknowledged that this decision presented a significant challenge but also an opportunity for Eswatini to accelerate efforts towards economic self-reliance.

He expressed the Government’s commitment to reducing dependency on external support by driving exponential economic growth and strengthening local capacities, in line with the goals of the Programme of Action. Cabinet has tasked the Ministry of Health to assess the full impact of the aid withdrawal and present a detailed report as a matter of urgency.

A preliminary report has already been submitted, and further assessments are underway. In the meantime, a sustainability plan is being developed to safeguard critical sectors and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

The Prime Minister extended gratitude to Members of Parliament for their rigorous engagement, as they serve as the voice of the people. He noted that their scrutiny strengthens the Government and keeps it accountable. He reaffirmed that the Government remains committed to serving the Nation with integrity, dedication, and an unwavering focus on progress.
