CENTRAL BANK DEPUTY GOVERNOR APPOINTED TO AFI GENDER INCLUSIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE

MBABANE – Deputy Governor Felicia Dlamini-Kunene of the Central Bank of Eswatini has been appointed to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion’s (AFI) Gender Inclusive Finance Committee. Her two-year term began in September 2024 and will conclude in September 2026.

The appointment was ratified by the AFI Membership Council during the Annual General Meeting held in San Salvador, El Salvador, on September 3, 2024. Dlamini-Kunene’s extensive experience in economic matters, having held senior advisor roles at the African Development Bank and the IMF, made her a standout candidate among the nominees.

As a voting member of the committee, Dlamini-Kunene will join other esteemed institutions from around the world, including the Central Bank of Egypt, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest. The AFI Gender Inclusive Finance Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing women’s financial inclusion by developing policies, conducting research, and fostering collaboration.

The AFI, a policy leadership alliance led by central banks and financial regulators in developing countries, is dedicated to promoting financial inclusion. By empowering policymakers and regulators, the AFI aims to increase access to and usage of quality financial services for the underserved.

Dlamini-Kunene’s appointment to the AFI Gender Inclusive Finance Committee is a testament to Eswatini’s commitment to financial inclusion and gender equality. Her contributions to the committee’s work will undoubtedly help to drive progress in these areas and improve the lives of women worldwide.
